ASSEDEV Environmental Alert
ASSEDEV Environmental Alert is a citizen-led pilot project currently under development, designed to facilitate the reporting and monitoring of illegal dumping. A first pilot implementation is planned in Bertoua 1st, Cameroon.
Why This Project?
Illegal dumping can persist when it is difficult to report, locate or monitor. ASSEDEV Environmental Alert aims to facilitate the flow of information from the field and the monitoring of reported situations through to their resolution.
The Pilot Area
The first pilot implementation of ASSEDEV Environmental Alert is planned in Bertoua 1st, in Cameroon’s East Region. This pilot area will make it possible to test the system at the local level and, based on the lessons learned, consider adapting it to other areas.
How the System Works
The system enables citizens to report and locate an environmental issue, and then transmit the information required to monitor it through to its resolution.
Situations That Can Be Reported
The pilot project will initially focus on illegal dumping. Other environmental issues may gradually be included depending on local needs and the system’s capabilities.
Who Is It For ?
ASSEDEV Environmental Alert is primarily intended for local residents and users of the area. It also aims to facilitate dialogue with local stakeholders who can contribute to addressing reported situations.
From Reporting to Follow-Up
ASSEDEV Environmental Alert makes it possible to report, locate, transmit and monitor an environmental issue through to its resolution.
1. Report
Describe the situation observed and provide the relevant information.
2. Locate
Identify the exact location concerned to facilitate intervention.
3. Forward
Direct the report to the stakeholders who can contribute to addressing it.
4. Monitor
Track the progress of the reported situation through to its resolution.
Simple and Accessible Tools
During its pilot phase, ASSEDEV Environmental Alert will rely on simple tools to collect reports, locate them within the area and monitor their progress.
1. Mobile Reporting
Enable residents to easily submit a report using a mobile phone.
2. Report Map
Display reported situations and their locations within the pilot area.
3. Case Monitoring
Organise the follow-up of reported situations and track their progress over time.
A Pilot Project Under Development
ASSEDEV Environmental Alert is currently under development. The pilot planned in Bertoua 1st will make it possible to test the system, draw initial lessons from the experience and improve it before considering any adaptation to other areas.
