ASSEDEV Environmental Alert
Pilot scheme for citizen mobilisation and monitoring of illegal waste dumping — Bertoua, Cameroon
Project overview
ASSEDEV Environmental Alert is a pilot scheme for citizen mobilisation, local coordination and measurable monitoring of illegal waste dumping. It is designed to facilitate the reporting of illegal dumping sites, their assessment, transmission to the relevant stakeholders, monitoring of interventions and evaluation of the durability of the solutions implemented.
The project is intended to be tested within a limited pilot area in Bertoua, Cameroon, before any possible extension. ASSEDEV provides coordination, monitoring and evaluation, without replacing the responsibilities of the municipality or the authorised waste collection operator.
Project progress
Current status: Advanced preparation
Last update: September 2026
The design and simulated testing phase of the prototype has been completed. These tests made it possible to verify the overall functioning of the system before any real-world field experimentation.
ASSEDEV is currently engaged in the identification and formalisation of the local partnerships required to launch the pilot in Bertoua.
The field pilot has not yet started.
